Do i answer physical health questions ? was created by twinkerzzz
Hi
I'm using your ESA guides to fill in my ESA50 on grounds of mental health.
I'm a bit confused by the signposting in your guides.
It seems to be saying don't answer any physical health questions if your condition is mental health unless there is a condition which has physical -> mental health cross over. (but not the other way round) Q1 Is this the case ?
The PIP alerts in the physical health section of the guides are confusing me.
Q2 ; Are the PIP alerts in the physical health section of the guide addressing physical health based answers in PIP or are they also about mental health answers in PIP ?
I'm confused - can you unravel me ?
thanks - n

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

1. You can only score in the Physical section where the underlying condition is a physical one and the mental health section due to a cognitive or mental health condition. It is not unusual for claimants with a severe physical condition to also suffer from mental health problems, but I don't know of any situation where a mental health problem would result in a separate physical problem.
2. Yes, this is a reasonable assumption.

It can happen- as in mental health results in physical problems- I've got very long term anorexia and as a result I have lost the feeling in my fingers and my finger ligaments have contracted- hence I can't open jars/do up buttons/ hold a pen properly etc. I know I'm a rarity but it does happen.

Forgive me for being a pedant on this, if anorexia is considered to be a mental health issue then you cannot score for the loss of sensation in the ESA physical section you would need to identify the physical condition which is actually causing the problem, this physical condition may be a direct result of the anorexia but has to be documented to score.

Physical condition is documented by surgeons as ischaemic contractures of both hands ( irreversible)- means that the ESA criteria about being able to do tasks I can't do . Has been documented .
