PIP face to face was created by Iris7505
Hi,
I have received a letter from Capita regarding a home visit for Pip in a weeks time. I have read your valuable information regarding this as well as info on citizen's advice. My issue regards answering the questions that are going to be put to me by the HP. I know how important answering these questions will be, however, I have two health issues that make it very difficult for me to do so. one, I have great difficulty actually speaking, forming words and two, I have vascular dementia which causes problems with memory and recall. My husband will be with me. Will he be able to speak for me and what are the guidelines, if any, for this?
I would be grateful for your advice, Kind regards, Iris

Hi Iris

How much the assessor will allow your husband to speak depends on the assessor themselves. Some allow very little and others accept quite a lot.

When the assessor arrives and before the assessment starts, either you or your husband should check with the assessor that they have read the information you sent in and that they understand the difficulties you have in communicating. You should then ask if your husband may speak for you some of the time or add any information you forget to give.

Many of the assessors are very reasonable and will allow a certain amount from someone else and you need to try and work with them. The assessor will probably want you to answer the majority of the questions if only to confirm the difficulties you have.
