Make up status of DLA to PIP Appeal panels was created by apples6
Dear B&W
Re : Make up status of DLA to PIP Appeal panels aka? Tribunal?
Would you please be able to tell me what is the facts of the persons who make up appeal panels for the above thank you.
I was under the understanding it was 3 persons 1 "legal" which I am not quite sure whether they are solicitors ?
the other a Medical person again not sure if that is a GP a consultant and it they are knowledgeable of the specific conditions of person in front of them.
The 3rd person is I understand is "disability" again I am not sure if the person is disabled? re this 3rd person I know of someone who had an appeal and they found that the "disabled" panel member was quite confrontational to them.
lastly are they all 3 paid and the same
and do they put themselves forward particularity the disabled person
thank you Apples6

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Apple
PIP appeal tribunals consist of three people: a judge who is legally qualified (often a practising or
retired solicitor), a doctor and a third member who has knowledge of disability issues. There will
sometimes be a representative of the DWP, the Presenting Officer, but this is rare. A clerk may
also be present, but they will probably come and go throughout the hearing and they take no
part in the proceedings. The Tribunals Service is part of the Ministry of Justice and is
independent of the DWP.
Whether the doctor is a specialist in your condition would be a matter of luck. The member who has a knowledge of disabilities is not necessarily disabled.
We do not have knowledge of their recruitment practices or pay.
