PIP - Next Step Advice Please was created by Flipper
Hi, Hubby had his PIP f2f, 3 weeks ago. I requested and received the assessor's report. 0 points across the board - absolutely not what we were expecting. I therefore called the DWP to express our serious concerns on the accuracy of the report and unfortunately, the untruths told by the assessor; this despite the assessment being recorded. I informed the DWP that I was in the process of transcribing the recording and that I would be putting in an official complaint to Capita and the HCPC about the assessor. She said she would pass on my concerns and that the DM may indeed want to phone us, to discuss matters before making a decision. On Saturday, he received a letter saying they (DWP) now had all the information they needed to make a decision. Should we just now wait for the decision to come or should we write a detailed response to the assessment report and include my transcript of the recording; or should I save all this for what is unfortunately looking like an MR or Appeal? The lady at the DWP did say that the report we had received may well be sent back to be 'reworked' - it will be interesting to read the new report if this is the case. Any advice on what you feel is the best path to follow next would be gratefully received.

Hi Flipper
Only you can decide what to do next. There is a window for you to write to the Decision Maker but you will need to be quick.Understand that the assessor is offering an opinion when they say that you can do the PIP activities, tackling these head-on is unlikely to be successful, you need to show that the basis of that opinion is founded on incorrect information, so try and refer to your evidence to undermine what they have said. Also, try and stick to issues that lead to your scoring points, I often hear members referring to the assessors spelling, as an example, whilst it may show a lack of professionalism, raising it as an issue isn't going to help you get an award.Lastly, make sure that you understand the criteria that you are being assessed against you can put the best case forward that is possible but you won't score points if you do not meet the PIP Descriptors.
They have a copy of your assessment interview, that they can listen to. Only send them another copy if you have copied it again. (Don't leave yourself without one).

Thank you for that. Apparently, according to the form you sign before the assessment with regards to recording, Capita state they don't forward the recording to the DWP but keep it in safe storage for up to 18 months. I wouldn't send them another recording just the transcript I've typed. Not syre they would accept one anyway.
Is it normal that someone who has had a wet room fitted through a council disabled facilities grant arranged by an OT, along with a remote controlled toilet that washes and dries the user, to score 0 points for washing/bathing and toilet needs? Also, the assessor states hubby has normal vision - despite being virtually blind in one eye and having vision in his other eye, well below the legal requirements for driving, along with reduced visual fields in both eyes? Just a couple of examples.

Hi Flipper
I'm not an assessor but it sounds unusual. All you can do is challenge what has been said. Good luck.

I had a telephone call from the DWP and my husband's benefits have been set at the high rate for both components for PIP and for 10 years.
I complained to Capita and have recently received their reply in which they have they have apologised for their health professional's rather vague assessment and offered £100 as a goodwill gesture!
