My husband has received his letter to invite to applyy for PIP; he is age 66 and currently has a DLA award for standard care and enhanced mobility. As we all know those over retirement age making a new claim would never be awarded a mobility component and would need to apply for attendance allowance. Does anyone know of any cases where someone over retirement age has successfully transferred over to PIP and kept the mobility component or should we be realistic and thhink and prepare for it ending?
The legislation that controls the transfer of DLA claimants to PIP suspends the age limit for awarding the PIP Mobility component so there is no reason why he cannot be awarded Mobility but be aware that the criteria is significantly more strict than the DLA equivalent. See our PIP Claim guide for details of this.
