Circumstances changed? was created by KPPurple
Hi,
Hope someone can help. I successfully appealed pip last year through a tribunal and am due to be reassessed in next year, I have a few queries — if someone could help that would be greatly appreciated.
1. I might be moving in the next few months - which means a change of address. I have been informed by 2 different advisors that if I move my award will continue as my condition won’t have changed. I pointed out to them that as I currently live at home with support I’d be moving away on my own and so I’d be using more aids/ other forms of support to help me. They said this still would not affect my award as my award is baaed on how my disability affect me. Is this correct?
2. I had a new diagnoses related to my disability recently but nothing has changed in terms of the descriptors I was originally awarded against, Do I report the change even though it won’t enhance my current award or change the points I was awarded? Would they be aware of any changes to my disability?
Could anyone advise if I should make a new claim when I move or make the change to the condition now? I don’t want to be between 2 different claim systems one being renewed where I currently live and then starting a new claim when I move. Or wait until the review date comes around next year?

1. Yes, this is correct, PIP looks at the help you need not whether you are receiving it or not, that said you may be asked about how you manage without any support but if you limitations remain the same then there is no need for you to report a Change of Circumstances, just your new address.
2. Whilst I can't tell you that you do not need to contact the DWP, in reality, they are not going to be bothered if you do not report a deterioration in your conditions or a new diagnosis, especially if you already have an Enhanced award, you can document the new condition when your award is reassessed.

Hi Gordon
thanks for your reply.
This is where the issue lies, for example, I got 4 for preparing food as currently I use an aid and someone helps me to prepare food. When I move I will still use the aid but will not have the support of a person with me for preparing food. I do need support with preparing food - being able to see sell by dates on food etc - so I would still need the support for this it just wouldn't be physically available to me.
Another example I currently have assistance when picking out clothes and being told if there is toothpaste stains on the clothing. When I move I will use a labeller aid to help me identify clothing but again in this instance I would need help from someone to identify appropriate clothing.
would these examples warrant a change in circumstances?
I currently have only standard across both and it was tricky to get even that - so very nervous and unsettling to say the least.
thank you

I can't answer this for you, remember that you need to be able to perform the PIP activities reliably and on the majority of days. I'm not sure that this is what you meant to say but you are suggesting that you can complete the activities without assistance from someone else, if this was the case then it would imply that your current award is incorrect!
So maybe you need to think about how you will manage more carefully.

Hi Gordon
I currently have the support of someone but when I move I will be using more aids/ devices in their place. Of course having someone with me would be a great help but sometimes that's not possible. Would it be a fresh new claim I'd ask for or would I ask for a change in circumstances - is there a form for this.?

If there has been no change in conditions and limitations then you do not need to inform the DWP.
If there has been a Change and you decide to notify the DWP then do so in writing, ideally using a Tracked post so you have proof of delivery, the DWP will almost certainly reassess you, this will result in a new PIP2 being issued and almost certainly a face to face assessment. The new Decision will supersede your current award, whatever it is.
