Have overdraft and credit card owing a lot gift was created by Actonjon
I have a 1.700 overdraft and 12 .000 on credit cards
I have been given 12.000 to pay off the above
£ 6000 now and £6000 in 3 months time
Will I have to tell the dwp
When I put the cheque I have £5500 in my a/c
But only for one day as I will pay off my cards
My mortgage is due to end and this was only way I can get a new one
I will have to pay the money back via the new mortgage.

You don't say what benefits you are receiving?
If you are receiving a means-tested benefit such as Income Related ESA then I cannot tell you that you do not need to inform the DWP and there is a good possibility that they will be made aware of the money anyway.

The banks have to report large transactions and savings to HMRC who then pass the information to the DWP.

As claimants on income related benefits are allowed £6000 per financial year. Would it be possible for you to repay £6000 of debt this year. Then the remaining £6000 just after April next year? That way you wouldn't have succeeded the limit you are allowed to have. Only a thought.
