DLA to PIP - benefit paid during MR/appeal was created by Fred
I moved from higher rate mobility on DLA to being awarded standard rate care and mobility on PIP. I have challenged this with a MR which I expect will be September before I hear anything back.
My question is, because they had awarded me both components at SR, do I get paid any PIP benefit during the MR wait and more importantly the wait if it goes to appeal?
I appreciate that this is likely to not be the case. Just annoying that I’m likely to lose my Motability car and if MR does not go my way then I’m going to have to wait likely 6-9 months before appeal if not longer. What does the DWP expect me to do in order to get to work?!

Hi Fred
Because you have been given an award for PIP you will be paid the standard rate through the MR process. You could talk to Motability and find out whether they will allow you to keep your car until the MR is done.
Should you have to go to Appeal most parts of the country are looking at nine months or more.

Thanks BIS.
Is the award of £350 odd each 4 weeks for SR care and mobility awarded during the time from MR through to appeal as well?

Hi Fred
Your PIP award as it currently stands stays in place through to Appeal providing there is no change at the Mandatory Reconsideration stage. There is always a risk (which is noted in the guide) that you can lose an award when you challenge it, so if for whatever reason you lost one part or all of it and then went to appeal the amount paid would obviously change.
