Hello all,

Does anybody have an alternate phone number for reaching the DWP with regard to ESA? I spent two hours on hold today and no one answered the call. My hubby fell in the bath this morning (his Parkinson’s is terrible at the moment due to the stress of PIP and ESA) so I have been engaged in extra care. I really need to speak to someone. My hubby is in the support group of ESA already but I can’t find a number that differs from the one on the ESA50 form.

Please, does anyone have one?

I'm afraid there is only the one number that you can call, try ringing at 8am.

Why do you need to speak to them?

Thank you Gordon, I’ll try that.

I want to request a paper-based review (I know, I know). The f2f PIP assessment has left him in the worst state he’s been in since he was diagnosed over a decade ago. He can’t take a repeat of that. We have the support of his Parkinson’s medical team and we’re meeting our MP in a couple of weeks.

The DWP told our MP that we didn’t present reasons that the PIP f2f would challenge him. We didn’t have a chance, Capita sent through an appointment within days. Our MP tried to intercede but the DWP took days to answer. Conveniently. This time I’m rising to the challenge ahead of time. And if I can’t reach them, or if it is pointless, then I can at least rest easy knowing I have tried. Nothing ventured and all that.

I’m a fighter Gordon.
The doctors told my husband he would be dead by now. I’m damned if I’m going to let the DWP destroy him now.

Forgive my passionate response.

It's not the DWP that make the Decision on a Paper Based Review, it's down to Maximus and they won;t do one on just your sayso you need a letter from his GP that states that a face to face would be detrimental to his health and also offering to provide any additional information that is required.

Don’t worry, I don’t assume anyone will do anything because I ask. I wanted to enquire what the requirements are, and you, my dear have helped me with your reply. Does it have to be a GP? Would a Parkinson’s Nurse or Specialist Therapist count? I guess that’s the additional information part. Seeing a GP this week re: the fall so can ask them.

Any advice on what to say to the doctor?

The most important thing is that they see him on a regular basis and can be authoritative about his conditions and limitations, that said, a letter from a doctor may be treated better than one from a nurse.
