I have just received a letter asking me to prove my identity by sending them my passport. Would it be OK to send a photo copy as I am concerned about sending it.
Thank you.

Hi Ellenthegood

They don't usually accept photocopies - just original documents. Is there a sentence something like "If you don’t want to send us the documents, you can call in at your nearest Jobcentre Plus office ..."

If there is not a sentence like that, I would ring up and ask if you were able to, otherwise, you will have to send your passport and send it by recorded delivery.

Hi
I had to do this recently, I sent it recorded and signed for next day delivery.
To be fair they txt me to let me know it had been received and returned it recorded delivery 5 days later.
Hope this helps.

Thankyou both.I have looked at the letter again and noticed there was writing on the back. It says I can take it to the job center for them to copy onto there system so I will get my son to take me next week. It does help to check if there maybe something written overleaf but I just don't think straight when I get these letters. Thanks again,

Is this something else they're doing to snoop on people?

Plus many people may not have one, so what would you send instead?

Hi Bud

If you don't have a passport and are asked to prove identity - there is a list of different documents you can use including birth certificate.
