I have obviously misunderstood something along the way - and I am still non the wiser.

I'm not saying that someone would not stop in the toilet for a period of time but I would not expect the vast majority of claimants to stay there for a protracted period of time so it would be reasonable for assessors to assume that the trip there and back are part of the same journey and therefore it would be the total distance walked that might be considered.
