You need to contact DWP straight away to find out what is happening.
What usually happens is that you should have been sent a letter inviting you to claim PIP, if you did not contact DWP then your DLA claim would stop within a given time frame. If you did contact DWP then you would have been send a claims form, You’ve only got 4 weeks to fill in the form.
If you have already done this, then the next stage would be for an assessment. Depending on which area you live in depends on who your assessor will be. By the sounds of it, this is the stage where the issue is. You usually are given two opportunities to attend an assessment, either a home visit or at an assessment centre before your case is returned to the DWP and that is when they send out a non attendance of medical assessment letter.
The backdate payment is a side issue, you need to first find out why your claim has stopped in the first place and then put in a mandatory reconsideration.

yes received the form to complete to change to PIP from DLA - sent in by deadline with all the medical information. my son was then asked to attend a medical - however due to MH and all the same reason unable to attend previous medicals (which we won at previous Appeals not PIP) its the new PIP claim that has generated a request to attend-
we expected to get the form that you complete explaining your 'good reason' - we have always been accepted as good reason in the past .
we could not ring up and reschedule as we were not saying we can do this another time -the argument is cannot attend or be seen by a home visit and provided all the medical consultant reports and GP reports.
then heard nothing at all
then the DLA stopped
i have written a letter to ask what this decision is based on?

completed the form, included all the medical reports supporting no medical and the 'good reason'
then received a medical assessment request.
I assumed a form would be sent out asking why non attendance and providing the opportunity to state again the reason-
if this was declined then i would of course -
i am not sure the Reconsideration would be offerred as we have no decision letter -nothing
just stopped the payment of DLA
