Letter re DLA ending was created by furrypusscat
Just realised DWP must have a weird sense of humor. Whilst I am extremely thankful that I have been left alone all this time, the brown envelope finally dropped through my letterbox exactly 1 week ago which just happened to be my birthday saying that my DLA would be ending soon and I needed to apply for PIP. As I have severe hearing loss I was going to ask my husband to make the call, however he has a bad ear infection and perforated eardrum albeit hopefully a temporary problem. In view of this I sent a letter recorded delivery asking for a paper application. It was received yesterday. The date I have to apply by in the letter is 16th January. I am hoping I receive the form before then but if I don't, should I still make the call. I have printed off proof of receipt by them. Should that be enough.

Hi Furry
You have evidence of it being received. You do not have evidence of it being processed. If you do not get your form by Thursday of this week - if your husband is able to hear with one ear, and is well enough get him to ring to check that your request is being processed. If no progress has been made, you have the opportunity to log, that you have made contact and you could miss out on your benefit or your husband can start the call for you.

Thank you, I did wonder if it may be best to follow the letter up. I am sure I will have more questions for this brilliant and knowledgeable site. Happy New Year to all the moderators.

Hello, Following on from advice from BIS, a phone call was made on Thursday 9th January in relation to my letter asking whether postal application had been processed. The advisor said he would send the pack out that day.
I was hoping to receive it today, 14th but still has not arrived. I only have tomorrow to complete and return, again by 1st class signed delivery for any chance of arriving on time.
The date on their original letter says I must apply by 16th January. Do you know where I stand if I don't receive the form tomorrow. As I have asked for a postal claim, does the 16th January still stand or will I be allowed a few days longer.
A note was made of the advisor's name.
If I don't receive the form by tomorrow, would it then be advisable to make the claim over the phone or will that cause confusion? I do not want to risk my DLA being suspended

Hi Furry
I can't advise you what to do on this one, I don't think I would leave it another day. I would get your husband to ring if he is available and ask the question you are asking me. Is your claim at risk when you have not received the form? You need an answer to that. Even if they say no it is not at risk, make sure that you get the name again and then write a letter immediately confirming the phone calls that have been made and the answers you were given and by whom. That will then be added to your records. You certainly should be given more time - but I am not the DWP. If I hold a conversation with someone, I always then put it in writing - so they cannot deny that it took place.
Confirm again whether the form has been sent out. If it hasn't your husband can say you want to start the phone process. He can do everything. He can confirm you are profoundly deaf. You are only required to say the word yes three times. I have done this for someone and to be honest they had no idea what they listened to but it got the process going. It's not right - but if you are scared of losing your benefit - do this as a last resort.
Hope you get a satisfactory answer.

The DWP can extend the period for starting a claim but you need to confirm that this has been done or your DLA payments will be suspended.
Your PIP claim will not be considered as started until the DWP receive and register the paper PIP1.
