PIP and alcohol abuse was created by nansen
Hello All.

I currently receive PIP and have a forthcoming review date.

I suffer from severe depression, anxiety and have attempted suicide several times in the last three years. This is a long-term condition and in the past I was hospitalised in a secure psychiatric unit for several months (own choice, not sectioned).

I am now completing the review form and documentation.

I misuse alcohol considerably – my G.P. is aware of this. I have been admitted to hospital in the past suffering from alcohol withdrawal syndrome, I have also had alcohol withdrawal seizures and my liver function tests (LFTs) are currently elevated.

To what extent (if at all) should I state this information (ie. my alcohol abuse) on the PIP review documentation?

Does anyone have any advice?

Many thanks.

nansen.

Hi Nansen

It is up to you how much you want to say. What the DWP want to know is how your condition/s affect your ability to undertake the tasks in daily living and/or mobility. You say you have a long term condition and I am assuming you said something on your previous claim. If you are self-medicating with alcohol and your GP is aware of it, it would be strange not for it to be in there particularly if they were ever to contact your GP for further information. But the focus needs to be on the PIP criteria and if it has an impact on that - you need to say so.
