Change of name - ESA and PIP was created by idkfa
Hi
I saw some earlier posts about this topic, but they're a while ago and I wanted to be sure of current situation so I'm asking again.
When I got married I kept my own name, Many years have passed and now I'd like to change my surname to be the same as my husband.
I get ESA and PIP and I want to ask if changing my surname name will have any detrimental effect on my claims. I'm especially worried about getting moved over to UC - could that happen? or is there anything else that could work against me?
I know its not connected to this forum, but does any one have any info about the best way to go about changing my name a long time after marriage?
Best Regards

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi idkfa
You are right, it is outside the scope of the forum. When I married I simply filled in forms with my new name - because there is always a spot that asks if you had a previous name. That is all it took and things appeared with my new name.

thanks for your reply.
Yes I understand asking how to change a name is outside the scope of the forum and perhaps I shouldn't have asked that.
But that is quite secondary to my main question about whether a legal change of name has any effect on my ESA and PIP claims.
Hopefully someone can help with that.

Hi idkfa
It had no effect on mine, but the best way to clarify is with the DWP

Write to both the ESA and PIP offices dealing with your claims.
It is not going to initiate an assessment for either benefit and most certainly will not result in you being asked to claim Universal Credit.
