ESA period ending, what happens, any DWP notice? was created by ScotD23
Hi
My son gets ESA and PIP for his problems, which we help him wit,we live in Scotland. He is in the ESA work support group ,but as he had a decent career some years beforehand they say there is little training that would benefit, and he felt unable to go to any mentoring/counselling for mental issues etc, all he has had is a routine 6 monthly interview. We can't find the letter but believe the ESA award was until Feb 2020, and PIP until Aug 2020.
He is now worried about what will happen, we suspect the ESA benefit will cease and we will hear nothing , or maybe a letter a month after the event. He did receive a nonsensical council letter this week which mentioned 'informed of a change in financial circumstances' (referring to a period from 2015 to 2017 at an old address!!) - so we suspect that was automatically system issued in relation to the council being told of something changing.
Can the ESA/PIP possibly just roll on,or will it stop without any notice and then have to query and ask for new assessment?
Many thanks

ESA is an indefinite award with scheduled reassessment so his current award will remain in payment until a new Decision is made, the DWP may initiate a new reassessment in February but his ESA will most certainly not stop then.
Unlike his ESA your son has a fixed term PIP award so unless renewed his current award will cease payment in August, currently, PIP awards are being reassessed six months in advance of the award ending, if you have not heard anything from then by April then I would chase then for an update.

Ok thanks Gordon, that is good to hear as in the past (during long wait for first assessment) always felt like things just happened with no notice and had to ask why. Will take it they would send him a letter if any PIP or ESA assessment scheduled.
Many thanks for your help
