Carers Allowance was created by Bob2016
My wife has just been made redundant and has earned £7000 so far in this current tax year. If she now claims Carers Allowance will they take into account her earnings so far and say that she has earned too much to qualify in this tax year? She is not working at the moment and earning nothing.
Many thanks in advance.

Carers Allowance looks at the claimant's weekly income, not their annual earnings so there should be no reason why she cannot make a claim, just be aware that if she is still within her normal pay period (a month?) then the earnings from that will be considered.

Thanks Gordon, will they take into account any redundancy pay or 3 months notice pay?

It's possible, just be upfront about the payment, I've had a look at the Decision Maker's guide and I can't see anything that disregards the payment just because it is for redundancy, so you may not be able to backdate the claim.
