If JUST on ESA will that be transferred to UC??? was created by HappyHappy2
Dear all,
I've been in the ESA Support Group for about 8 years - very hard won, including two Tribunals, but eventually, with a lot of help from CAB & the Benefits and Work Guides, & family & friends, + written letters of support from specialist & GP, I got there. Last two reviews have all been paperwork only as I have such a comprehensive ESA50 & supporting documentation.
I am about to move house & just across the border to a different Local Authority, which might be construed as a "change of circumstances" by the DWP..
Am I correct in thinking that as I ONLY get Contribution-based ESA and no other Benefits, that the DWP will not bother to try & transfer that to UC ?????
Very worried about that possibility, so would very much appreciate if someone would please advise.
Thank you.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

In order for you to have to claim Universal Credit, you would need to make a new claim for one of the benefits that come under the UC umbrella, based on your post this would only be Housing Benefit if you actually need to claim this.

Dear Gordon,
Thank you for the clarification.
Yes, I am not in receipt of Housing Benefit, and am unlikely to qualify for that in the foreseeable future.
Does that mean that UC only comes in when you apply for a Benefit that is overseen by the Local Authority, e.g. Housing Benefit?
Or perhaps I should ask which Benefits come under the UC umbrella?
If I were to apply for PIP in addition to ESA, would that then prompt a move to UC?
Thanks again,
HappyX2

HH
PIP is a separate benefit from UC.
The benefits that come under UC are;
- Housing Benefit
- income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
- income-based Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA)
- Child Tax Credit
- Working Tax Credit
- Income Support

Thank you Gordon, Your answer has prompted another question from me!
If I were in receipt of CB ESA and PIP, and then was moved to IR ESA, would that prompt a move to UC? And if so, how would the PIP part be handled if it's not part of UC?
Thanks,
2xH
