Hi, I've heard that you can apply for DLA mobility component on the basis of your health condition before age 65, even if you are over 65 when you apply. My partner has been getting DLA care component since he was 57 and is now 72, and is thinking of applying for DLA mobility on the basis of his condition pre-65. I haven't seen it in writing anywhere, so wondered if it were possible or not? Does anyone know? Thanks, Sue
In principle, he can ask for his claim to be looked at but he will need to show categorically, with the support of evidence dating from when he was 65, that he met the criteria for a Mobility award when he was 65. The DWP will certainly ask why, if he met the criteria so clearly then, why was a review was not requested seven years ago?
I'll be honest and say that the chances of an award being made so long after he reached 65 is pretty much zero.
