Hello which would be the best guide in the members section to follow for a first time claim New Style ESA only... Not interested in claiming UC as a top up.

Hi cats6
Have a look at our ESA/UC Claim guide on the following link and if you have any specific questions then come back to the forum.
www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/esa1
Providing you have at least 50 weeks of NI Contributions in both of the Tax Years 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 then you can make a claim for New Style ESA, this is a Contribution Based benefit so your household income, with the exception of any pension income you receive, is disregarded as are your assets and savings.

Okay thanks ..I'd gotten a bit confused as noticed guides in the ARCHIVE MATERIALS...
Am asking for a relative.
SSP soon finishing and would qualify for CB ESA New style.
To add are all claims for incapacity benefit definitely finished?
Because their employers letter from Human Resources, HR, saying SSP ending..
also states they the employer has filled in an incapacity form on relatives behalf..and states for my relative to apply for incapacity benefit'

Hi cats6
Incapacity Benefit was abolished for new claims from 27 October 2008.
Providing your friend has at least 50 weeks of NI Contributions in both of the Tax Years 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 then they can make a claim for New Style ESA, this is a Contribution Based benefit so their household income, with the exception of any pension income they receive, is disregarded as are their assets and savings.

I think that their employers Human Resources department needs to update their standard letter.

yes their standard letters probably want updating then.. Employer is Part of the Civil service..says it all !.
It could be worse I see one post regards ssp, employer is advising to give in their notice
Couple more things..
1. SSP ends this month but Half pay will continue ..would that be counted and deducted from CB ESA payment. ?
(I know further down the line any occupational pension will be counted, which they will be getting, on which level yet is not known as the process has only begun)
2. Could ESA Assessment Rate have been paid while on ssp ? ..
I'm not sure but thought I'd read somewhere that ns-esa could have been applied for up to 3 months before ssp ends..
I just hate to think of them missing out on payments..and have told them to start an application sooner rather than later.

....adding to this, as a 'heads up to others.
they rang this morning the uc/esa helpline to be sent a nsesa1 claim form and requested the form to be in Large Print
only to be told that takes around 2 weeks to be sent out!
Normal standard print up to 5 days to be posted but in reality call handler could get it in the post today so expect it in around 3 days.
What a bloody cheek eh! Over the Large Print request.
