Pip question please was created by Karen24
Good evening and thank you for your reply’s earlier.
I have fibromyalgia but am also a Carer for my autistic child, do you think I need to put this somewhere on my new pip application or are they likely to think that because I’m a Carer I don’t have all the widespread pain, fatigue depression, anxiety etc etc . Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks. X

Karen

Do you receive Carers Allowance? If you do then I would expect the Decision Maker to know this and to raise issues about your caring and your own limitations, I'm not sure that this information will be passed to the assessor.

If you aren't receiving CA then unless you say that you are caring then I would not expect the DM or the assessor to know.

The DWP has been making much of carers claiming PIP and whether they are as limited as they say they are so you need to decide whether you need to tackle this issue or not.

Hi Gordon,
Thank you for your response.
I’m sorry to sound stupid but I really don’t understand what you mean in your message ?
I do receive careers allowance, autistic child is 17, in full time education. and spends the rest of her time in her bedroom. She doesn’t interact/ socialise with anyone (even me) communication skills are very poor as is her understand of things, she is also known to have violent outbursts around the house due to her anxiety. however I don’t have to wash ,dress her etc so no physical care as such, but it mentally drains me if that makes sense.

Hi Karen

I can tell you (from experience) that the assessor will know that you receive carer's allowance - so will ask you at the assessment whether you mention it on the form or not. If your health is affected by being a carer then it would be sensible to say so - whatever the help is that you give.

Hi Bis
Am I wasting my time and effort not to mention the stress in applying for PIP if I get Carers allowance ? You say in past experience? Did you waste your time ?
I’m sorry but I’m all alone and just don’t know what to do anymore , I don’t think I could cope with the extra anxiety if I’m going to be told a straight no just because I’m a single parent therefore the only person that can be a Carer for my child.
Any advice please

Hi Karen

It is not a waste of time and effort in applying for PIP if you get Carers allowance for you child.

I attended a Tribunal last week, Zero points for the assessment, zero points at MR was awarded enhanced daily living and standard mobility. The claimant was going to give up at the first hurdle. At the Tribunal, even with a Presenting Officer from DWP there she explained how her condition affects her and how she copes in looking after her child who has ADHD.
