ESA medical letters was created by navarrod
I am filling in my esa review and have my previous application letter from 2013 from my gp which states walking distance 30 metres and has quite detailed info on my problems. I have a recent letter from my gp 2020 which states my walking distance is now 20 meteres as my condition has got worse ,but not so much info on my problems should I send both or only the recent one as I understand that esa letters can be used for pip and the older letter gives a longer distance ?
Thanks

I would send both letters but be aware, ESA is not a walking test, it is a Mobility test! In addition to your walking, it considers your ability to self-propel a manual wheelchair over the same distances, you do not need to be using a wheelchair or even to own one for it to be considered. SO even if you can show your walking is restricted unless you can also show that you cannot self-propel the wheelchair you will still not score points.

Thank you Gordon
On the first letter it also states that I have degenerative disc disease which causes numbness and weakness in my arms so I am not able to propel a manual wheelchair . I was more worried about them ignoring my new walking distance of no more than 20 metres while looking at the older letter which states no more than 30 metres

Hii Deb28

If you're sending both letters - make sure that you flag up the difference in distance emphasising the deterioration. I know it should be obvious, but things like that can be accidentally or deliberately overlooked.

Hi to Deb28, and hi to all.

I also have DDD in nearly all my cervical disk, verterbraes. And I put down that I cannot or could not self - propel a wheel chair due to the pain self propelling would cause me at even 1 metre.

Obviously I included examples of how it would cause me great pain, and also that i'd need long term bed rests if I was considered to be able to self propel a wheel chair.

And that I would not be able to do this safely, reliably or even to a reasonable able bodied standard.

I was put in the SG 3 years ago nearly. And this was a major factor of me getting into this group. The assessors report stated this, that I was unable to self propel a wheel chair given the evidence I had included with my ESA50 form etc.

I wish you all the best.

Thanks Bis
Should I cross through the 30 metres on the first letter and put see recent distance estimation or leave it and add a written note on the bottom of the letter saying that my condition has deteriorated and to refer to my recent drs letter re distance ?
Thanks deb
