help please moving from JSA to ESA/UC was created by map
Hello hopefully you can help me. I'm after some advice for a friend. She is 59 years old and worked for the NHS for 15 years and was forced to leave due to health reasons. She was accessed by NHS Pensions (ATOS do the the health assessments for NHS Pensions) and was declared unfit to work and receives a very small pension £230 a month. This happened 3 years ago. When she was then accessed by the DWP (ATOS again) for any benefits she could claim they said she was fit for work and put her onto JSA. Unfortunately she did not appeal at the time because she felt so intimidated and did not understand the process.
To bring things up to date, her health problems are continuing to deteriorate and I'm hoping that she can move onto a benefit that can help her. She currently receives PIP (Standard amount) for her disabilities and has a lot of medical evidence which I hope can help with any claim. I'm very worried because her financial situation is becoming very tight and there is a chance she could lose her rented home.
Could someone advise me and my friend what steps she should take to enable her receive the correct benefit.
Thank you
Michael

Hi MP
Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is

In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ
My full name is showing, how can I stop it?
I find it strange that your friend has been on JSA for 3 years due to ill health. Legacy benefits have now gone for new claimants, therefore your friend may have to go on to UC depending on her circumstances and age.
You can check by putting your information into one of the online benefit calculators.

She would need a Fit Note from her GP.
Our ESA/UC Claim guide explains the criteria she will need to meet for an award.
