In 2016 I was awarded PIP until 4 - 4 - 2020 . As yet I have not received a renewal form from DWP. I am reluctant to phone them as I do not want them to give me an assessment over the phone as I know I will get flustered with my answers. I am nearly 72 years of age. Is it possible they will give me a " Gentle Touch " appraisal automatically, or will l have to phone them and ask for a renewal form. Also can I refuse an assessment over the phone and if I refuse will they stop my PIP payments. What would you advise I do.
They will not assess you over the phone. The people who answer the phone for DWP are call handlers. You could ask them where your renewal form is if you want, but there are many delays in the system at the moment. You could even ring and ask if you are going to be given a light touch review. Even this has not been consistent - some people over the age of 65 have already been told they are subject to one and others like yourself have not. The biggest problem is that there has been no official announcement from the DWP themselves to what they are doing.
I cannot advise you on what to do. If it is worrying you, then you have the option of phoning and it will not affect your current claim. If you're happy just to sit and wait until you hear from them - that is also a viable option.
