I am somewhat confused!
I reached pension age 6/3/20.
I am (was??)on ESA ( support group)..
Last December and then in February I received letters from DWP
stating that from 6/3/20 my ESA would continue but at a lower rate.
Today I received a letter ( from same office), stating that they would cease my ESA from 6/3/20.
I don't understand.
( I have based my future financial planning, for at least the next 2 years, when my pip is due for renewal, on those first 2 letters.).
Can someone attempt to work out what they are playing at?

Hi joxer

To be entitled to ESA, you need to meet the basic qualifying condition, you have to be under pension age (06/03/20), therefore any premiums you received with ESA you will no longer be eligible for.

Depending on your circumstances, you maybe eligible to claim Pension Credit, if you are then you may be able to reclaim some of those lost premiums that you received with ESA.

Just to clarify, from your post the second letter would have been in regard to a part payment of your ESA for any days between your last full payment and you reaching State Retirement Age.

I'm afraid ESA letters are often (always?) badly worded so whilst it may have sounded like an on-going payment, this would not have been the case.

I have very carefully read the second letter they sent me.
It clearly states that from 6/3/20 my ESA would continue at £111 per week but that from the 10/04/20 this would increase to £113.
No mention of partial payments.

As for payment they sent me one full weeks payment on 5/03,
( usual date would have been 12/03). As ESA is paid 2 weeks in arrears it seems to me that they owe me 2 weeks. If the third letter denying ESA stands.).

The third letter mentions pension guarantee credit which my part time carer is going to look into.

I understand about the pension date, what I can't fathom is the 2 letters stating ESA would continue, albeit at a lower rate.
Both letters stating they have reviewed my case.
Surely they should know?

I did say that the ESA letters are poorly worded.

Have you looked at whether you are eligible for Pension Credit?
