Justification for Descriptor , No points
Can read and understand basic and complex written information either unaided or using spectacles or contact lenses
Consultant at Assessment wrote
He states he has issue ln this area
Despite reporting issues with concentration this is not considered in the scope of this activity'
He has good insight and cognition.
He states he is able to read
He does not have any reported sensory or cognitive restrictions
It is therefore suggested that he has the ability to compete this task to the functional and acceptable level

Hi Tammy

I assume from what you have written is that you think your son should have scored for reading when he didn't. The report states that poor concentration is not considered for this particular question and this is why he didn't score. They look at sensory issues (eg blindness) and cognitive restrictions (for example a learning disability). Your son stated himself that he can read, and therefore he's not likely to score for this unless you have back-up from a medical professional stating that his schizophrenia is of such severity - even with medication - that it inhibits his ability to read and understand complex information. A claimant only has to be able to read one sentence to pass the level of complex information.
