pip and disability premium was created by reds123
hi mods, i am on esa support group for many years and also on pip standard daily living, and now my wife has been put on pip standard both components and has also been awarded sdp paid with my esa payments approx £66 weekly, she is also my carer and so gets carers allowance for looking after me, am i right in thinking i would also qualify for a sdp if she was not claiming carers allowance and if so how would i change my claim so i remove carers allowance and get a sdp payment instead, i ask this because as you know the carers allowance is also taken off my esa as its classed as an income, and hopefully by doing this my benefits would increase by the sdp amount ( i think i am right ) i hope you can understand what i am getting at , many thanks bb

Hi british bulldog
You are correct in your assumptions, the first thing your wife needs to do is inform DWP that she is no longer able to care for you due to the deteriation in her own condition, once carers stop then contact DWP for the SDP, I assume it is only you and your wife living at home?

Be aware, at the moment your wife is receiving NI Credits through her Carers Allowance claim which she will lose if the CA is closed, you need to factor in the cost of purchasing these directly into your decision to switch to the Premium.

No, it's a common misconception, the claim is in your name only although it is affected by household income, etc., only you are receiving NI Credits through your ESA award.
