I had a letter telling me that my DLA would end and I needed to phone if I wanted to claim PIP. I did that and was told that everything was on hold because if the coronavirus emergency. Fair enough. Now ive had another letter telling me that I haven't made a PIP claim! The post is being delayed and the date for claiming has now passed. Not sure what to do. Any advice would be welcome. Thanks
As far as we are aware you have been misinformed, whilst many processes have been suspended, starting a PIP claim when advised that your DLA is ending is not one of them.
Is this the warning letter sent three weeks after the letter asking you to claim PIP or the letter saying that you have not made a claim within the required period?
If the former then you should still have time to make a claim for PIP but you will need to phone the DWP to do so as quickly as you can.
If the latter then the letter should say that you have a further 28 days to make a claim, there should be a new date on the letter by which the claim must be started. Your DLA will now have been suspended but will be put back into payment if you start your PIP claim with any missed payments reimbursed.
If this was the latter and you have missed the new required date then I'm afraid your DLA claim will be terminated, you can make a new claim for PIP but this will not restart your DLA and you will not receive any payment until an award is made.
