PIP award length was created by Joey123
Hi there. I got a pip award from 11/04/20 to 01/09/21. On the same page it says 'we will also contact you while you are getting PIP to see if needs have changed and the amount you get. This will be after 01/09/20.

Now i know that this is a short award which is renewed usually approx 14 weeks before expiry. So my question is

Is this award just for 5 months with a 12 month review/renew period or is it a 14 month award with a 14 week renew period?

I'm so confused.com. lol
Many thanks

It is a 14 month award, whether it is reassessed or renewed is not part of the Decision, however, if your letter says that the DWP will renew some time after 1/9/20 then I would expect you to receive an AR1 review form in March 2021.

O I thought if you get a short fixed term award it is always renewed about 14 weeks before the expiry date. Yes the letter says they will also contact me while i am getting PIP to see if my needs have changed after 01/09/20. So i guess that'll be a reassessment with an AR1 but then why ask me to renew the award 14 weeks before the end.? Are you saying they may extend the award beyond the renewal date 14 weeks before it officially end.
So confusing!!
LOL
Thanks Joey

The vast majority of awards that are for less than two years are renewed, we have had no more than a handful that have not been.

Whilst awards have been extended recently and it is looking increasingly like this will continue for at least another three months we cannot say what will happen beyond that.

Hi there. Thanks Gordon. I just wanted to know as I am thinking of appealing this decision as I do not want to do a renewal every 2 years or less but if they are going to just reassess it and maybe extend it further then perhaps i do not mind so much . I was initially awarded a long term fixed award. Do they actually tell you on the form for a short award whether you'll be renewed at the end of it.?
Thanks

I think you are confusing yourself over what this award is. It will end in September 2021, unless we are still in the mess that we are currently, which I can't see being the case, the DWP will not extend it.

Whether they reassess your claim or renew it, it will be a full reassessment of your claim and the Decision can refuse a new award, make a reduced award, make the same award, make an increased award, make a shorter award or make a longer award.
