PIP telephone assessment farce was created by silverback
The Independent assessment services formally "ATOS" yet again live up to their reputation.
They had been told on the latest PIP form and the one before that our 19-year old could not speak on the phone to them, due to certain conditions.
Not being able to talk to them is not a choice it is part of his health problems they were also clearly told this verbally on two occasions before the appointment date.
Assessor calls and asks for him I said he cannot talk to you, it is part of his conditions. You have been told this on his form and verbally. The reply "well then he cannot have an assessment you should have been set up as a DWP appointee", this reply is rot and I have already discussed this with the DWP.
Our son is perfectly capable of managing his life and finances therefore an appointee is not appropriate.
I did say that not allowing him to have an assessment due to his disability is possible discrimination, stating "you have to make other arrangements", I was told "there are no other arrangements". Then I questioned "how a person with hearing problems would have a telephone assessment" the answer we have nothing in place but are working on it.
So Independent assessment services have denied my son an assessment due to his conditions which prevent him talking to them on the phone, these conditions are part of the reasons he was awarded DLA then PIP. Discrimination or not yet again they have caused great anguish poor kid was already having a rotten week now this.
I am sure it was Justin Thomlinson that said other people other than the claimant could be allowed to interact with a PIP telephone assessment.

Hi rattle
I am sorry to read your ordeal and, unfortunately this is not an uncommon problem.
You need to make a complaint and also get his MP involved, you will be surprised how fast things happen once a MP gets involved. It does seem a bit ridiculous having to involve his MP but the earlier you resolve the issue the less stressed he will get.
Contacting your MP
The Equality Act 2010 sets out the duty on service providers and those exercising public functions to make reasonable adjustments for disabled people. The definition of ‘disability’ in the Act is a physical or mental condition which has a substantial and long-term adverse impact on the person’s ability to do normal day to day activities. The DWP therefore have a legal duty to make reasonable adjustments for disabled people.
