Hi

Looking for some help/advice please. I started claiming new style ESA September 2019 I filled in a questionnaire and sent back early March. I haven’t heard anything back about assessment but realise that with Covid there will be even bigger back log. I have had a letter telling me I will not relive anymore money after September 2020 as 365 days will have passed as it’s contribution based. My question is will I still get to have an assessment? I am on PIP and receive full care and mobility and my condition is not improving at all and unfortunately is lifelong. I was hoping to fight to be in the support group as every time I try and work my health unfortunately declines even more and it’s goes on and I end up in a really bad place.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give this site is amazing.

Hi Dannij

The answer to your question 'will I still get to have an assessment?' is yes.

By the sounds of it you are still in the assessment phase, assessment phase applies to all new ESA claimants. During the assessment phase you should undergo the work capability assessment. At present there is a delay in this phase, I would contact DWP to see what is happening with your claim.

If you are awarded Limited Capability for Work then the NE ESA is only payable for a year, if you receive Limited Capability for Work Related Activity then it is payable for as long as you meet the criteria.

Our UC and ESA claim guide explains the criteria that you will need to meet.
