Speech impairment was created by bikerdave5
I have a severe life long speech impairment. I receive PIP and for the last 18 months ESA(Support Group) due to mental health issues. I expect my ESA to be reviewed soon. On my initial ESA application I wrote about by speech and how it affected me. Will my review process take this into account? Will I be asked to do a telephone assessment? If I cannot verbally respond will they cancel my ESA? I live alone and am socially isolated with no one to speak on my behalf.. I have not even been able to access my GP so all written evidence will be quite old. Please reassure me that there will be a reassessment form and DWP will not just ring me out of the blue. I can text ok

Hi Daverags.
1. It is not clear how quickly ESA reviews are coming through. Some are quite clearly being delayed for months.
2. You will be sent a review form when the time comes.
3. Very occasionally they try to do an assessment without a review form. We always advise people to request one (which you could do in writing first).
4. No one will try and do an assessment without informing you.
5. If you get notice of a telephone assessment - then you immediately write, keep a copy and send it explaining you cannot do a telephone assessment and tell them to look at your initial application or send them a copy of it (if you have one).
It is worst-case scenario that someone tries to do a telephone assessment with you, but I would hope that they would already know this is not possible. Do not panic if you get one. I understand you may not be able to see your GP, but if it happens you can write to them and request some support.
However, at this stage you haven't been sent a review form - so I would try not to worry about it. Come back if you do, and we will try and offer any further suggestions.
