Hi, this may or may not be relevant, but I have just managed to get a wheelchair on freecycle. I have my husband's old crutches as physios are not yet able to see patients but was told on the phone today by physio they will try to get me ones with more suitable handgrips soon. I am very hypermobile so two months on crutches due to ankle probs is now doing damage to my shoulders and wrists. So my husband pushed me round the supermarket in the wheelchair this week. The free wheelchair means if I was claiming I could truthfully say I use one for anything over x time or distance. Also some places like garden centres and big shops have ones you can borrow. Perhaps you could rent a Red Cross one for a bit even if you can't get a free one or borrow one?
Best wishes with your claim anyway,
Denby

Remembering that PIP does not consider the use of a wheelchair just how far a claimant can stand and then move (walk).

As you say. I was over-brief, the point I had in mind was I cannot manage the distance round a supermarket walking with the 'aid' of crutches because it causes too much pain to ankle/hands/wrists/shoulders. So if being assessed, and assessor tried to trip me up by asking how I managed shopping, I would have this [using wheelchair] as the answer.
For the rest, I was picking up on BIS's point about Nicky being ready to answer why she hasn't got a wheelchair, by her getting one so it wouldn't apply. Sorry for any confusion caused.
My friend who has successfully helped several people get PIP always actually times their walking. Then 'they' cannot argue when he says it took whatever time it was for them to cover 50m or 200 m. Just has to say that it is consistently that slow. Denby

  			 				Hi denby

Timing a distance is good, I have used that a number of times at Tribunals, you also need to take into account if you have to stop on the way, why you have to stop and how long you have to stop for before continuing on.
