Telephone ESA assessment query

Telephone ESA assessment query was created by blissfulblues
I helped my brother fill in his ESA form earlier this year and the assessment got delayed due to Covid. He just got a letter in saying he has a telephone assessment on the 27th. What can he expect? Can he ask for this to be recorded? What sort of questions do they ask over the phone?

Normally I attend any of his medicals with him but we live quite far apart and I'm currently in level 4 in Scotland and not allowed to travel outside of the area. I just want to try and help him prepare as much as possible for this. His claim is based on mental health grounds.

Hi Blissfulblues

Your brother should be able to request a three way telephone call so you could be on his assessment as well.

Do look at the up-to-date information on telephone assessments in our ESA/Guide. The information is on page 117 onwards. www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/esa1

You can ask for the phonecall to be recorded might it not actually happen. If your brother has the means he could make a covert recording.
