Hi I'm not sure if anyone can help or if this is the right place to ask (apologies if not) - I have been informed by someone that all people who are on benefits and getting furlough have to pay back the furlough payments from the changes that took place on 1st July - I have looked and I see the step down in % rate of government help but cannot see anything about paying back if on benefits. Has anyone heard anything like this?

You are correct, your question is outside the remit of the forum.

I have read that some claimants who were on furlough may have to repay it due to not being entitled to it. You may want to contact a welfare rights organisation for more specific information.

You can find your local Welfare Rights Organisation to help you with advice by clicking on the link below and putting in your post code, it will then come up with a MAP with a list of agencies. advicelocal.uk
