I seem to have gone over the £6,000 limit for one day this month and on looking back, the same has happened for about four days over the past two or three years. It has been under £250 each time, so I probably owe the Government about £10.

I really cannot handle the stress and aggravation, at this time, if they ask for bank statements to pour over. Can I just not saying, being as I probably owe them at the most £10, maybe £20. I understand Universal Credit do financial reviews but I am not even on UC at the moment so by the time they get around to asking for a review, it will probably be many months down the line. Do you think it would be ok to just ignore this time/ Thanks/

  			 				Hi axab43

There is nothing to worry about at present as the DWP cannot see bank or savings account balances. But the government is planning to change this . So maybe plan ahead for the future and go shopping when your balance nears £6000. You are allowed to dip in and out of the £6000 threshold but in the future when the DWP has the new powers it may cause you trouble by triggering a computer generated review.

Excuse me for barging in here, but I read somewhere I think that the last ESA payment (maybe the last PIP payment too) doesn't count in your savings. Perhaps someone on here knows if that is true, because if it is then you might not need to worry anyway.

  			 				Hi Perdita

You are correct, ESA and PIP does not count as savings in the period in which they are received, ESA is fortnightly and PIP is 4 weekly, if the money is not spent in their period and carried over into another then it is classed as savings.

As David has stated above, plan ahead, I always find funeral plans are good at using savings as they are ignored by DWP and now they are also regulated by the FSA, so your money should now be safe.

Can you withdraw money from a funeral plan?

I do not believe you can, which is why DWP ignore them.
