I am supporting someone to make a Universal Credit Claim under Managed Migration. She has very limited IT skills and so can't make or maintain an on line claim. I have offered to support her to make a telephone claim but she doesn't feel that even with support she would be able to do this as she becomes confused and anxious very easily. Her migration letter has a deadline of 27th May.
Can we call the UC helpline and ask for a home visit to make the claim and show her ID? If this is agreed but DWP can't offer a home visit before the deadline will her existing benefits continue until this is carried out. Will the UC be backdated and will this create an over payment of UC?
Your friend would be categorised as an Enhanced Support Claimant. So you really need to address those questions to the UC team. You will probably be directed to the Complex Case manager.
