Hello,
I have had NHS therapy for a mental health condition many times in the past, but for the last six years I have been seeing a private therapist (most weeks) as the NHS was not able to provide the ongoing sessions I need in order to manage. My therapist offers support (via email or WhatsApp or phone) with following her advice outside of sessions (less than 3.5hrs a week usually and not usually most days). I would not be able to maintain my level of recovery without this.
I also attend an online support group every week.
Could anyone tell me if this counts in the 'Managing Therapy' section?

Managing therapy means undertaking therapy, where a failure to do so is likely to result in a deterioration in your health. The activity considers the amount of time each week that you need support from another person to be able to manage the therapy (but excludes any therapy time where you do not need such support. In adding up the hours of support you need each week, it does not matter if you only need such support on a minority of days.
The therapy needs to be undertaken at home and needs to have been prescribed or recommended by a registered doctor, nurse or pharmacist or a health professional regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council.

be aware of private therapists for pip. They don't like them. I have to make it clear that there is no NHS alternative, with proof.

Thank you so much for this reply Gary. I think the problem may be then that although my therapist is very qualified formally she is not a registered doctor, nurse or pharmacist or a health professional regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council. And i don't think any of these professionals will have recommended that I saw her (They would have recommended that i have NHS therapy).

Could I also ask what happens when you make the first phone call? I am really frightened about doing it. I am a few days away from pension age and someone has said to me that i should make the phone call now before i reach pension age so i can still have the opportunity to be eligible. But I find it very difficult. It might help if I knew what they would ask on the phone.

When you first contact PIP as a new claim, they will ask you a few questions about your condition, how long you have had your condition as you need to have a condition 3 months going on for another 9 months or more. They will ask you for your doctors details and for your bank details, if successful this is the account were they will pay you.
Remember if you do not apply before you reach state pension age, then it is too late to apply for PIP.
