ESA to UC migration payment issues was created by David
Hi,

I’ve recently migrated over to UC after receiving my letter from the support group of old style ESA though am totally confused by the payments I’m now getting.

I applied for UC on the 4th April, I then got a full two week payment of 320.80 on the 17th as expected but then I have also continued to receive payments of 281.1 every two weeks after this.

In my initial UC statement for the assessment period from the 4th April to May I just received the standard element and then a deduction for ESA of 275.64. I queried this stating I was moving from support group and the two ESA payments I received during the assessment period and recently received a letter in response. They have added in the LCWRA element into my claim but then deducted a figure of 598.87 slightly less than the sum of the 320.8 and 281.1 ESA payments I received during the assessment period and paid me an additional 92 as an adjustment.

Am I right in thinking this ‘corrected’ amount is also incorrect and shouldn’t include the first 320.8 payment ? And that the ESA 281.1 is just an erroneous overpayment ? (Though I received a second one of those today as well suggesting that my initial journal entry didn’t fix the issue)

Also any ideas why the numbers don’t quite add up ? I could at least understand a deduction of 601.9 or 281.1 as they are the actual amounts received but 598.87 and 275.64 seem oddly specific wrong numbers.

Would be grateful for any help anyone can provide.

Regards
David

P.S. Not that I mind receiving extra money from the government for a change but with the current atmosphere of going after benefits claimants I don’t want to be hit later by a fraud accusation and big bill.

Replied by David on topic ESA to UC migration payment issues
Hi David

Yes you are correct in thinking that Benefit overpayments are not welcome these days as the IT systems play catch up and the money has to be returned.

UC agents are migrating about 85,000 claims per month and with the DWP published error rate of 5% that means over 4000 mistakes per month.
So you will need to learn how to check your statements and look for corrections.
When you see a mistake on a statement always take a photo or screen shot as Work Coaches have been known to alter the statements.
Here is a useful guide on how to check statements and look for mistakes--
