Migrated to UC from ESA - entitlement amount incorrect? was created by Sam9
I submitted my claim for UC on 14/04/25 (managed migration). When I submitted the claim I was in receipt of ESA in the Support Group/LCWRA, receiving both the disability Premiums.
Yesterday I received my first UC payment statement but it appears to be incorrect, and I am completely confused by the figures. From my understanding, when migrating to UC from ESA you should still receive the same amount as you did before because of the Transitional Protection payment.
On ESA I received £489.30 every 2 weeks, so every 4 weeks that would add up to £978.60.
On my UC payment page the Assessment Period is 14th April to 13th May and it says:
What you're entitled to
Standard Allowance £400.14
Transitional Protection £236.74
Those two amounts add up to £636.88 and not the £978.60 that I was getting on ESA. So that means I will be getting £341.72 less per month on UC even though I should get the Transitional Protection to keep my payments the same as before (just to note: my circumstances haven't changed at all, everything is still exactly as it was prior to me submitting my claim for UC).
I'm not sure why it's been worked out this way? I will need to contact them but I don't know where to start because I do not understand what the calculation error is.
Ps It looks like it was looked at prior and then updated. When I look at the "Original Version" Statement it just said I was entitled to the Standard Allowance of £400.14 with no mention of any Transitional Protection, so my Total Entitlement was only the £400.14. Then I received the "Corrected payment" statement and that one included the Transitional Protection of £236.74. So they realised they made an error and updated it but it's still incorrect.

Hi Sam9
UC agents are migrating about 85,000 claims per month and with the DWP published error rate of 5% that means over 4000 mistakes per month. So you will need to learn how to check your statements and look for corrections. When you see a mistake on a statement always take a photo or screen shot as Work Coaches have been known to alter the statements.
Here is a useful guide on how to check statements and look for mistakes--

I have made sure to download/save my payment statements just incase
So do I need to just leave it and hope it updates/corrects itself? Or do I need to contact them?
I've worked out I'm now getting less on UC than ESA, over £300 per month less.
When migrating from ESA Support Group to UC shouldn't the payment statement also mention a LCWRA amount as well as the Standard Allowance and Transitional Payment? Mine doesn't have anything on there about LCWRA or the Support Group.

Hi Sam9
Yes the payment section should mention LCWRA, when you made the UC application did you click on the button which asked if you were in receipt of ESA?
Follow David's link to check your initial claim to see if you missed the question.
I would contact UC helpline and at the same time mention it on your journal.

Hi
They've not added the LCWRA amount to your statement. This should be £423.27 monthly. You need to put a note on your journal under "Payments" to inform them that you were previously in the Support Group ESA. Mention Regulation 19.

Thank you for clarifying about the LCWRA Gary. It now makes sense where they have gone wrong with their calculation.
I sent a message in my journal under the Payment option. In the message I mentioned the LCWRA element being missing from my claim and that my claim amount was less by £xxx per month compared to ESA.
A little while after sending the message I realised I made a mistake with the £ amount because I was working it out 4 weekly instead of monthly, so the £ amount I put in my message was less than what I should have put.
I am a bit reluctant to send another message to explain my mistake just incase I'll be seen as impatient or spamming.
