Working part-time and claiming Universal Credit

Hi all,

I am a little confused by the rules relating to working part-time whilst claiming Universal Credit (UC). Insofar as I understand, the 'work allowance' applies if you are responsible for a child or have been found to have limited capability for work (LCW) or limited capability for work-related activity (LCWRA) via a work capability assessment (WCA)(soon to be insanely scrapped). If the 'work allowance' does not apply, then for each £1 you or your partner earns after income tax reduces your UC by 55p, but, in these circumstances, you may still be required to look for a full-time job whilst working part-time, even if you have significant health problems. Is that correct?

Also, it seems that if you don't qualify for PIP under the new (insanely cruel) proposals, and are not responsible for a child, then there is no way the 'work allowance' will apply. Is that also correct?

Sincere thanks.

Hi Heisenberg

I don't know what the new system will be yet so cannot comment.
If as you say you have significant health problems then your expected hours of work will be reduced and you should not be harassed to take on further hours.
