Change my name was created by Eva
HI,
For personal reasons, I am considering changing my name legally through deed poll.

My question is how and if this could affect my claims for ESA and DLA?

I appreciate that I would need to let the various departments know of my change of name, but could this change trigger the automatic transfer to UC?

I know it may seem like a strange question, but I am loath to do anything that will affect my benefit entitlement, and force me on UC where I would lose various disability premiums, and ultimately end up worse financially.

Thanks in advance for any advice and assistance.

Hi Eva

I'm sorry, but your question is outside the remit of this forum. I see no reason why changing your name should trigger a change in any of your benefits, but I don't know, and I would talk to a specialist welfare advisor.

Hi Eva

We actually have quite a narrow remit of questions that we answer—and we don't want to give people wrong information. So I have no expertise about what impact a change of name could have on your benefits. I told you what I thought, but that's why I said you should get clarification from a specialist welfare advisor. (I'm a volunteer, not a welfare advisor)

I promise you, we quite often tell people that their question is outside the remit of the forum. You can read further information here
