New Style Esa and Occupational Pension Deductions

Hi

Following up on this as I have just received my first UC statement due to be paid on 25th July. Not sure if you can upload screenshots on this forum so my statement says the following:

Standard Allowance £400.14

Limited capability for work and work related activity £423.27

Transitional protection £253.07

Total entitlement before deductions £1,076.48

What we take off (deductions)
Other income £376.26

Other benefits £609.05

Total deductions £985.31

Your total payment for this month is £91.17

So, as expected, they have changed my IR/CB ESA to NSESA and UC. but they have deducted my occupational pension in full under "Other Income" £376.26 monthly. They deducted it in full before managed migration.

Can anyone tell me if this is correct please?

Have they deducted my occupational pension in full because I receive a top up of UC of £91.17?

Before migration my ESA was £300.68 fortnightly.

Thanks in advance.

Hi soulgal

Your question is outside the remit of this forum, we would advise you to seek help and advice from your local Welfare Rights Organisation: advicelocal.uk. where they can take all your circumstances into consideration when giving advice.

Hi. My full pension was taken off my ESA (IR) and now off my UC.
I expect the £91.17 is Transitional Element to cover your ‘old’ disability premiums which you don't get with UC.

I am not an expert. This is just what I think it might be.

If you would be better off receiving NS ESA & your pensions (and no UC) I would phone the CAB help to claim people and have a chat.

*UPDATE*

If you receive an Occupational Pension (works pension) it will be deducted £ for £ from Universal Credit as it is classed as income.

If you take a lump sum from an Occupational Pension it will be classed as savings if you are in reciept of UC.

This is because UC is a means tested benefit.

Hi Angela Thanks for your reply. I don't think I would be better off only claiming NSESA as UC is a means tested benefit then I still qualify for "passported" things like free dental care, optical voucher, warm home discount, Council Tax reduction etc. Also, if I were to lose my benefits for any reason then I would still have some income via my pension, although it is not enough to live on. Ironically, if I hadn't bothered to pay into a pension scheme when I was working then I would receive the same amount of benefits from DWP?? Best Wishes soulgal
