Confused with migration from ESA to UC was created by silverback
I claim ESA contribution based (in support group) and a very small top up of ESA income based and housing benefit.

Received migration letter and filled in forms online for myself and my partner. So far I am not impressed at all, informed UC that the date for telephone biographical appointment which was because I could not prove identity would need to be changed, and that my wife cannot answer questions because of severe mental health reasons and I would represent her, this was agreed and wife gave permission. They sent a note to job centre who still phoned on the original appointed time and asked to speak to my partner, so well done Jobcentre.

We have a new telephone biographical appointment, I have concerns though, when filling in the form I was not asked for my reference number, I did fill the form in on the web address they gave me which ends in move-to-uc.

The other concern is (income and earnings) it states "is not getting any other payments or benefits, does not have income other than benefits or wages" it says this for both of us. I have four conditions which cause brain fog and confusion, and also dealing with a very unwell partner who is very anxious and scared of the whole process. Why do we have to prove who we are when the DWP already have all the documents they need as we already claim benefits?

Hi silverback

You mention your reference no. I assume you mean your National Insurance number which was essential in the past for ESA and Income Support claims. Universal Credit was designed to work without NINOs so that would be why.
I think one of the reasons for all the demands for more proof of information that they already have is to put people off claiming Benefits. I think there is a very large number of people who drop out of claiming though they are perfectly entitled. And some Councils are getting in on the act too and making people reclaim for help with Council Tax after they have moved to UC.
