Mandatory Reconsideration Questions was created by SuperSuze
Hello,
The DWP have accepted my request for a Mandatory Reconsideration relating to my Universal Credit claim, following managed migration from ESA (support group) and HB. I am not getting what I am fully entitled to.
The DWP is now refusing to communicate with me through my online journal or allowing me to upload documents for evidence. They are completely ignoring everything I write.
My questions:
1. Is this standard practice and are the DWP likely to ignore any communications from me completely until a Case Manager is assigned (I'm not being rude or inappropriate btw)?
2. Is there a way to expedite this process?
3. What is the general timeframe for a MR?
4. Should any assigned Case Manager introduce themselves and give me an opportunity to present my case to them?
Sorry for all the questions. This process is very unfamiliar and my savings are dwindling....

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi SuperSuze
I'm sorry you find yourself in this position.
1 - DWP are supposed to respond to journal entries within 72 hours. This often doesn't happen. If they are not responding - I would address the complaint to the manager. I've put a link in the next question.
2 - There is no easy way to expedite the process, particularly if they are not responding to comments on your journal. You could argue that you are experiencing financial hardship - I would do this by making a complaint to the manager for your area. You can find their name and contact details on the government website www.gov.uk/government/publications/local...plus-service-leaders
3 - Unfortunately, there is no timeframe for MRs, and I can't even give you a guess at how long it might take because it varies so much.
4—It's unlikely you will be given any opportunity to talk to the Case Manager unless they have questions after they have looked at your paperwork, in which case they will contact you.

Thank you for the information and replying, BIS. I will take your advice and submit a formal complaint to the area manager.
I'm just unsure how I'm supposed to submit evidence electronically. Guess, I will have to send it by post (recorded delivery) and hope they don't claim they never received it. I doubt they will even consider it, though!
Think I've got an appointment with my MP on Friday. I will also use the opportunity to make a case against the Gov's proposed disability cuts too, as a last ditch attempt!

Hi Supersuze
Good luck with your MP. Hope he or she listens and actually understands!
