Help - Wife being asked to attend work search review - Unfair Claim commitment was created by stan
My husband was previously on ESA in the Support Group, and we were recently asked to migrate to Universal Credit. We followed the instructions and applied.
I’ve been his full-time carer for over 25 years, though I’ve never claimed Carer’s Allowance or any other carer-related benefit before. I do everything for him — cooking, cleaning, managing medication, supporting him physically and emotionally — he really can’t be left alone.
I had my work commitment appointment today, and when I came home to review and accept it, I was shocked. It says I should look for work over 16 hours per week and be willing to travel over 30 minutes. It also says I can work as a carer — even though I already am a full-time carer for my husband. I have been forced to accept it to get payment but i feel pressured.
I left a message in my journal saying the work commitment is unrealistic, but I’m feeling really worried and scared. I’ve now been told I need to go back again on the 5th of August, and that I have to start looking for work. But if I go to work, who will look after my husband?
Can someone please help me how to challange this. I wrote a messga in journal but work coach is belligerent and rude.
Please can someone advise what to do?

Hi stan
I'm sorry this has happened to you. I'm sorry you felt pressurised into going to a work commitment interview. You should never have attended one. You should not be expected to look for work and this is clear on the government website. Look at "Looking after a severely disabled person" www.gov.uk/government/publications/unive...rely-disabled-person
Copy what it says and put a link to that document from the government website i your journal and say that you are unable to look for work. Then if the coach continues to pressure you, contact your MP and put in an official complaint.
