Income Related ESA to UC migration - New Style ESA.

I wanted to share this with everyone who may be confused about the migration process (so everyone then!), in the hope that it may help someone.
I got my migration notice back in March to switch from Income Related ESA to UC. I'm in the support group for the ESA.
I made the UC application online and carried out the tasks in the to do list. After submitting my UC claim I received a letter acknowledging that the DWP had received it.
Then I got another letter last week telling me that my 'Contribution Based ESA' was changing to 'New Style ESA.' This completely baffled me as I was getting Income Related ESA, not Contribution Based. Then I got a phone call from the job centre to make an appointment for me to talk to someone else from the job centre next week, which will supposedly take half an hour. I thought they were going to talk to me about the UC, but it turns out they want to talk to me about the New Style ESA.
I left them a message in my online journal asking them to clarify this but have not received a response yet. So I decided to contact the advisors at Citizens Advice today to ask if they can explain this to me and this is what I was told: "Lots of people do not know it but they were actually on a combination of Income Related and Contribution Based ESA. It can be hard to tell because they don't always make it clear in your letters but that's what it sounds like has happened here.
The Income Related ESA gets transferred over to Universal Credit and during that process the Contribution Based ESA turns into New Style ESA. What that means practically is you will still get ESA payments and this will be taken off your Universal Credit. You will still get the same amount of money it will just come to you a little differently."
I hope this helps anyone else who is confused by this.

Hi wightrider

Thank you for your post, we have had a number of queries concerning NS ESA where claimants have informed they did not think they were on CB ESA.

I must admit the increase matters DWP send out each year were not very clearly worded.

Your post sets out the issue clearly, which I may use in future posts.
