Hello Miles,

Sorry to hear you have been having difficulties with your carer.

To answer the first part of your question - the onus is on your carer to report to Carer's Allowance and UC that they no longer qualify for carer benefits if they have ceased caring for you for at least 35 hours per week, as they have a duty to report their correct circumstances to the DWP. You have no duty to report the change to the DWP, as the permission of the person being cared for is not required for someone to claim Carer's Allowance.

That said, you could still call Carer's Allowance and let them know, especially if you have someone else (your wife) providing your care.

In terms of whether your wife should make a claim for Carer's Allowance before managed migration, I don't think we can answer that fully on this forum because we'd need to know your full circumstances. As it sounds like you have a migration notice with a deadline to move to Universal Credit, it would be best for you to contact Citizens Advice Help to Claim. They can check you're not missing out on any current benefits and also advise how your situation would be affected by managed migration or your wife claiming CA.

When you contact them, you should have all details of current income and capital for you and your wife and also your migration notice to hand.

Here are the details for Help to Claim:
Citizens Advice Help to Claim This is the main source of help with UC migration. It is a national telephone helpline and webchat service, funded by the DWP but delivered independently and impartially by Citizens Advice to provide advice on eligibility for UC and support with making a claim. That support can continue up to the date of your first correct payment of UC. This means if there is a problem with your first payment, they can support you with challenging decisions or making complaints. Telephone: 0800 144 8 444 Webchat: www.citizensadvice.org.uk/about-us/conta...ct-us/help-to-claim/ Both services are open Monday-Friday, 8am – 6pm.

Best wishes
