ESA To UC. When is exact moment that old claim for ESA closes? was created by droopy
Hello,
Thanks for reading this.
It may be that this question has been definitively answered in the Benefits & Work guide on the subject, or on the Forum, and I have missed it. Please forgive me if that is the case.
My question: when is your claim for ESA automatically closed?
Is it;
When you register your online account?
or
When you begin the online claim form,
or
When you successfully submit the online claim form (along with relevant evidence submitted online or taken to Jobcentre.)
Will I receive formal notification that one claim has closed, and another been opened?
Thanks,
Droopy

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Droopy
We can not give you a definitive answer, what should happen is a stop notice is issued when your ID has been confirmed, but this does not always happen and errors do happen and claimants are overpaid which is then recoverable.

Thank you very much for that answer.
I am not even sure I expected a definitive answer!
But if it is at least generally true that is a help.
Gratefully,
Droopy
