Worrying letter from DWP ESA was created by Anneb
Re the managed migration ESA to UC - I've now received a letter from the DWP about my son’s ESA as I am his Appointee. The letter is saying that the contribution based ESA is changing to New Style ESA and that they will book appointment with local JobCentre with work coach at which I will have to accept the Claimant Commitment - if I do not accept it the letter says they will not be able to pay any New Style ESA and may close the claim.
I feel very threatened and worried about this. I already wrote to the work coach in the Journal yesterday about how as Appointee I am now allowed to accept the claimant commitment on behalf of my son who cannot accept it due to his disability, and am waiting for a reply….but if I don’t give this Commitment, even though they’re not supposed to accept me giving a Commitment then, things being done on computer I'm worried my son’s NS ESA may stop.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Anneb
The letter you received is a standard claimant letter computer generated and does not cover Appointees.
If you are worried why don't you phone Citizens Advice Help to Claim and they will confirm that Appointees don't get involved with Claimant Commitments.
Let me know how you get on.

Hi David,
I phoned Citizens Advice Help to Claim and unfortunately the advisor thought that Appointees can accept Claimant Commitments
I explained that the DWP don't accept Claimant Commitments and it says so on a Parliamentary website but she wasn't aware of it.
I'm waiting for the Work Coach to respond to my message to them yesterday, and I have now messaged the case manager about the letter and copied my message to the Work Coach to her.
This is ridiculously stressful. I understood that New Style ESA should be automatic !
